Its a sinking feeling to know that your hard work is stolen and published without due acknowledgment. Many a times images and content have been stolen in spite of being copyrighted.Blogging community has become easy target for such cowardly act.
I request all the bloggers to come together and raise there voice this disgraceful act. In the comments section share your ways of watermarking the images and preventing the content from being copied.Use the logo and blog about your experience with plagiarism and let me know about it so that I can included it in this post.Spread the word and caution the new bloggers about copyrighting the content.

Water marking images
I use Paint tool in window or Picasa(free down loadable) to add text over my images. For the copyright symbol press control Alt and C simultaneously.Make sure the copyright is bigger in size and more noticeable.

Check out the very helpful post about water making digital images by Cham of SpiceClub. Thanks Cham for the informative Post:).

It used to make me sick every time I saw plagiarism, but I have had to let a lot go or I would be constantly sick. I am the co-owner/editor and principle writer of www.FabulousFoods.com, www.FabulousTravel.com and www.FabulousLiving.com. I have a Google alert for all three (if you don't know about Google alerts they are great, put in a term and Google emails you anytime it finds anything published on the web about it).

Plagiarism it so pervasive, hardly a day goes by where I don't get notices of someone using our content unauthorized -- text and images most often, but sometimes one or the other (there probably are lots of our images out there but I can't get alerts on these so don't know about them). Usually there are several a day. Most folks do have the good graces to provide a link back to the site and/or credit the site. So I have stopped pursuing these, as there are so many I wouldn't have time for much else. (Don't get me wrong, I still think it's wrong and it is illegal, but I don't have enough time to pursue each case).

It's the ones who just steal the content without any credit or link back whatsoever that get to me. These are harder to find unless you happen across them (Google alert won't work unless they mention the site somewhere in the post). But I come across these all the time during surfing (these I do pursue). It is maddening. The average person just doesn't even seem to he conscious at all that there is anything wrong with what they are doing. I think an education campaign would be the first step.

Its sickening and should be stopped. What happened to her can happen tomorrow to each of us.I believe some legal step should be taken to stop this.Yes,we can support each other and do make it happen.
The research and hardwork that goes into a recipe should be appreciated, atleast left alone and not copied. Thanks Y,for this post to help and support each of us against this crime, and at the moment lets support Malar in her efforts.

plagiarism is rife, simply because nothing much can be done about it. if someone uses your work, it's amazing that they don't have the gall to acknowledge it, but when they're making money from your work, that's totally devastating.

I think it is sad when ppl do this, i get angry too.
I have read in few blogs that it is happening to them too.

I think professionals know it's bad. But I truly believe that a lot of amateur bloggers are completely oblivious that they are doing anything wrong. At least that's been my experience and I deal with this issue constantly. That's why education is so important.

Plagiarism is indeed such a heinous and obscene act..I personally have not come across this while blogging but otherwise I have..It is bitter to noitce that bloggers.. especially food bloggers who spent loads of time and hardwork on their presentations are being made targets for these kind of dastardly acts..however it is always advisable to input a comment regarding your work being copyrighted..to avoid people who feign innocence for their fallacious actions!

Sadly, plagiarism happens all the time. When someone steals from you, it brings up a whole range of emotions; none of them are pleasant. You feel invaded, as if someone has broken into your home and stolen from you. I've had entire books of mine ripped off and offered as free downloads, as well as having blog content swiped. I blogged about this on my Writer's Workshop blog. A good link to explore to see if your content is being stolen is: http://www.copyscape.com. Just type in your blog or website url and this service scans the entire web for duplicate copy. They also offer a badge you can display on your blog.

Hi Yasmeen,

I could use some reinforcements on this plagiarism issue at one of my blogs. Someone used one of my recipes without permission, she did credit me but no link was provided. Permission to reprint was never asked for. Now one of her friends has left a post on my blog saying that I am hostile. Well maybe I am, but I have good reason to be. Not only is my meterial be used without permission, but apparently, I am the bad guy for pointing it out. All I stated was that providing a link back to the site she took the content from unauthorized was the LEAST she could do. That makes me hostile. Yeesh!

Here's is the post if you are interested
