Beware of these harmful food additives!!

How often do you read the ingredients list of foods you buy? sometimes? often? never?


Well, it's time you seriously start checking the food labels and be aware of the foods that could secretly be harming your body. And might even solve your problems of unusual bloating, indigestion ,weight gain among other discomforts.

  Here is the list of the food additives that studies have shown to cause negative effects in the body.

1. Mono Sodium Glutamate(MSG/E621)

MSG has a tempting salty taste , that increases craving for the food. It does enhance the flavor of the food but certainly, does no good to your body. Regular consumption of MSG has shown to cause obesity, fatigue, depression and eye damage.
Also known with other names : Disodium inosinate, Disodium guanylate
Commonly Found In: Chips, Crackers, Soups, Lunch meats, Seasonings, Ajinomoto (used in Chinese cooking) and Frozen dinners.

2.Artificial Food Coloring 

 Artificial food coloring has shown to increase hyperactivity among children and increases the symptoms of Asthma ,allergies and eczema.
Commonly used Food colors : Blue #1 and Blue #2 (E133) ,Yellow #6 (E110) and Yellow Tartrazine (E102) ,Red dye # 3 and Red #40  (E124).
Commonly Found In: Fruit Juices ,Candies, Fruit snacks like gummies, Popsicles 

3.Artificial Sweeteners 

When the label has Sugar-Free on it then chances are it has been sweetened using Artificial Sweeteners. Artificial sweeteners have been linked to cause cancer ,obesity and bloating.

Common Artificial sweeteners: acesulfame-K, aspartame, neotame, saccharin, and sucralose
Found In: Sugar-free sweeteners, yogurts, smoothies, fruit juices ,energy drinks


4.Artificial Preservatives 

No wonder foods have such lengthy expiration dates these days, the preservatives give them longer shelf life. But do look out for artificial preservatives which studies have shown to aggravate allergies and respiratory illnesses. Increases the risk of cancer, heart disease and blood pressure

Commonly used Artificial Preservatives: Sodium Benzoate(in processed foods, pickles and drinks), Sodium Nitrate(in Canned meat and sausages) , Sulphur Dioxide (in Dried fruits) , Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) found in cereals, chips and other processed foods.
Parabens - Propylparaben (E216), Heptylparaben (E209) and Butylparaben.

5.High Fructose Corn Syrup 

This one ingredient is so common in processed foods , its hard to miss it. In fact high fructose corn syrup is so commonly being used in processed foods like jams, jellies,ketchups, syrups and even bread ,that unless the label says in bold "NO HIGH FRUCTOSE SYRUP", the chances are the food has high fructose corn syrup. Be aware high fructose corn syrup has been linked with the epidemic of obesity and also an alarming increase in diabetes.


6.Partially Hydrogenated oils(Trans Fat)

Most of the consumers now seem to be aware of the bad effects of trans fats ,hence there has been a rise in trans fat free food. Surprisingly it's still used in common everyday foods like peanut butter, bakery products and deep fried foods.

7.Olestra(Olean)
Used as fat substitute in many low-fat foods and snacks. ,this does far more harm than good. Has been link to cause severe digestive issues.


8.Carrageenan
Made from sea weed ,Carrageenan is an additive used as an emulsifier in  ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, soy milk, and other processed foods. Has no food value ,but can cause irritation in gastrointestinal tract ,diarrhea and other stomach problems


9.Aluminum
Used as a preservative, this is common in baking powder and some kind of process cheese. Aluminium in human body has been linked with cancer.

10.Butane ,TBHQ ,BHA and BHT
Derived from petroleum these are used as preservatives ,commonly used in Chicken nuggets ,crackers and microwave popcorn. It has been linked with A.D.D in kids and also some kinds of cancer.
